Sandy Spring Museum

In November 2024, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Portland cement’s empire, C-Crete proudly poured its cement-free concrete product at the Sandy Spring Museum in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The project consisted of foundation, walls and slabs, marking the first use of Portland cement-free concrete in the Mid- Atlantic. This highlights C-Crete’s status as a museum-quality product by defying the entrenched norms of Portland cement usage, which contributes to a staggering ~3 billion tons of CO2 emissions annually.

By delivering a low-carbon, high-performance alternative, the museum joined a growing movement toward sustainable construction. The mix achieved excellent results, with 28-day compressive strength of more than 5000 psi, proving that the C-Crete sustainable concrete not only avoids compromising performance but can even exceed conventional standards.

C-Crete is honored to have contributed to this historic milestone and extends its deepest thanks to the dedicated partners and collaborators who helped bring this visionary project to life:

  • Scott Knudson (Architect),
  • Jerry Therrien,
  • LEED AP (Owner Rep),
  • Allison Weiss (Museum Director),

  • and Ken McCormack (General Contractor).
