World’s First Granite-Based, Cement-Free Concrete in NYC
In October 2024, C-Crete successfully developed and poured the world’s first granite-based, cement-free concrete at a supertall building in Manhattan, NY.

This groundbreaking material, free from Portland cement and its associated CO₂ emissions, was deployed at 270 Park Avenue, the new global headquarters of JPMorganChase. The project built on C-Crete’s earlier breakthroughs with cement-free concrete formulations based on basalt and zeolite, each of which represented a world first. With granite, C-Crete added another high-performance, earth-abundant material to its portfolio to further proving that sustainable alternatives to limestone-based Portland cement are viable, scalable, and already in use.
The granite-based mix delivered the strength, durability, and workability expected of structural concrete, while eliminating the carbon footprint of conventional cement. It reached a 28-day compressive strength of ~5000 psi, surpassing conventional benchmarks and validating the binder’s suitability for construction.
The pour marked a historic step and exemplified how next-generation materials can integrate into modern building workflows without trade-offs in performance or design flexibility.
C-Crete Technologies acknowledged the contributions of key collaborators who helped enable this pivotal moment: AECOM Tishman, Severud Associates, Tishman Speyer, JPMorganChase, SRM Concrete, and NYC Constructors, among many others.
