C-Crete Awarded California Energy Commission Grant to Advance Zeolite-Based Concrete

January 2024 — On the heels of C-Crete’s successful pour of the world’s first zeolite-based concrete –completely free of Portland cement and carbon dioxide emissions – C-Crete was awarded funding from the California Energy Commission to advance this breakthrough material.
Zeolite is a naturally occurring, non-carbonate rock composed primarily of silicon and aluminum – two of the most abundant elements in Earth’s crust. Billions of tons of zeolite are available in the western United States and other parts of the world. Zeolite is just one of several rocks in C-Crete’s growing portfolio of cement-free concretes.
With support from the California Energy Commission, the C-Crete team looked forward to expanding the development and deployment of environmentally friendly concrete alternatives that reduce the construction industry’s carbon footprint.
