C-Crete Received 2024 Concrete Innovation Award from NRMCA

June 2024, C-Crete was honored to receive the 2024 Concrete Innovation Award from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) for developing and pouring the world’s first cement-free concrete free of CO₂ emissions. This breakthrough technology used Earth’s abundant non-carbonate rocks, such as basalt and zeolite, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional Portland cement.

The award was presented during a regional ACI gathering that celebrated pioneering construction projects in the city — including Hubbard’s Corner[VS1] , where C-Crete’s technology was implemented. The foundation of this building — poured one year earlier — continued to perform as intended and was expected to last thousands of years, thanks to its composition resembling Earth’s crust.

During the event, C-Crete’s founder acknowledged several key individuals whose vision and willingness to embrace innovation made the project possible:

  • Francesca Renouard (Structural Engineer)
  • Mark Ward (Architect)
  • Martin Josund (General Contractor)
  • Larry Busch and John Cherne (Ready Mix Operations)
  • Joan Crooks and Don Davies (Project Leaders)

As stated in the remarks: “The Concrete Innovation Award truly belonged to these individuals who adopted innovative Earthly materials, removed the fear factor, and took concrete steps toward sustainable construction.”
