First Cement-Free Sidewalk at Scottsdale Fashion Square

Feb 2024, in a landmark application for sustainable urban infrastructure, C-Crete’ cement-free concrete was poured for a sidewalk installation at Scottsdale Fashion Square, one of the premier shopping destinations in Scottsdale, Arizona. C-Crete binder contains zero Portland cement which eliminates one of the largest sources of embodied carbon in conventional concrete production.

In this project, approximately 15 tons of this innovative material were placed and finished with exposed aggregates to deliver both durability and architectural aesthetics.

This high-performance concrete achieved a compressive strength of 6600 psi, which exceeds a range of mechanical and durability benchmarks, including ASTM C1157. This project underscores the growing viability of cement-free concrete in high-visibility, high-traffic applications, bringing next-generation sustainability to the public realm.

C-Crete thanks John Wallace and John Haarala at Macerich, as well as the outstanding team at Desert Ready Mix, for making this pioneering pour possible.
